This report, which is based on available literature and interviews whith project staff, reviews current thinking on maintenance of rural water supply systems. Many rural water supply systems are still being constructed without due consideration to a maintenance system and most maintenance systems are efficient. The review indicated that maintenance is often not successfully organized in projects because poor project formulation, back of resources, and back of systemic involvement of users and local authorities. The purpose of the present study is to identify key factors and conditions to be considered in establishing maintenance systems for rural water supplies. |
