These countries are: Senegal Mauritanie, Guinea, Mali, Unper Volta, The Ivory Coast, Togo, Dahomey, Niger, Nigeria, Caméroun, Chad, Sudan, Ethiopia, Unganda and Kenya (figure 2). Some basic characteristcs are cammon to this area as a whole from east to west. The climate is dry, with a rather high mean temperature (35-45°C or 95-113° F). There are three months of rainfall per year with the average annual rainfall varying between 250 and 700 mm. There is a fot of sunshine (2,200 to 3,400 hours) and a mean high intensity of solar radiation (0,8kw/SQm/h)
