Note générale :	The sudan zone is a latitudinal belt stretching across Africa from Senegal of Ethiopia, where the mean annual rainfall is between about 400 and 1000 mm. Coton, groundnuts and various grain crops are grown ans, in parts, the zone is well settled corn and cattle country. From october to april there is little or no rain, dry tropical air extending equatowards from the north and north-Est. Nearly all the rain falls in the summer months when moist equatorial air moves over the country from the south-west, and widespread convective activity south of the Intertropical discontinuity the boundary between the two kinds of air, gives rise 40 showers, thunderstorms and squalls.
