Intense rainfall is an important factor in many aspect of agricultural and engainering design and operation. Design may be based on maximum probable precipitation in those case where disaster would occur if the design rainfall for any agricultural or engineering works were exceded. Design may based on return period analysis where an element of risk is acceptable. The data is taken from records of hourly, rainfall for three stations held at the departement of hydrométeorological services, thes records having been campiled as a matter of routine at some Gambian stations. This report presents the maximum probable precipitation, calculated according to WMO n°332, which is largely based on the work of hersfield and the return period according to the hersfield of Gumbel. |
