Note générale : |
These notes may be summarized as follows : 1) Normal water supply treatment based upon filtration, effective against pathogens, is equally effective against cercariae.slow sand filters are potably better than rapid or pressure sand filters for this purpose/ 2) Chlorination alone should be relied upon under field conditions to kill cercariae completely. It is however a valuable second-stage precaution aigainst filter malfunctioning/ 3) Storage alone, if maintened for 48 hours, is effective but is a clumsy device which in any case has little effect upon pathogenic bacteria or viruses/ 4) exclusion of cercariae from comunity water supplies is a small, but only a smal factor in the control of schistosomiasis. Complete protection of a community can only be effected by a combination of snail control, sanitation mesures, medical treatment by the people themselves. |
